PHYSIOTHERAPY

The CSP description:
'Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle.'
'At the core is the patient’s involvement in their own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in their treatment.'
'Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function & reduce pain when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future.'
Manual therapy including joint mobilization & manipulation with soft tissue & muscle release techniques are used in combination with exercise and treatments such as electrotherapy and kinesiology taping in order to achieve these aims.
A physiotherapist will also work to correct any abnormal movement patterns & postures that may aggravate the symptoms.
In the initial assessment the patient is also screened for more serious conditions or pathology that might require onward referral.
